Synopsis
My Beta, whom I had trained for years, turned his blade against me for an Omega.
Ignoring our past, I immediately ordered my men to sever his tendons with silver blades and threw him out of Silver Creek.
The comments I had been able to see floating in the sky since childhood flared up like crazy:
[Omg! This Victoria Sterling is too ruthless! Liam protected her for ten years, and just because he didn't choose her this once, she ruins him?]
[The love of an Alpha Female is terrifying. If she can't have him, she destroys him. What's wrong with Liam saving his sweetheart?]
[Run, Liam! This toxic woman doesn't deserve your loyalty. Go to Sophie, she is your salvation!]
Me, ruthless?
A traitor who backstabbed his Alpha for an outsider? I actually thought his punishment was too light.
I sneered, publicly rejected him as my Beta, and had all his belongings burned to ashes.
Then, I turned around and went to the underground arena, picking the fiercest, most suicidal rogue I could find.
A month later, Liam heard the news and rushed back, fighting his way through all the guards at the door.
With bloodshot eyes, he knelt on the ground, clinging tightly to my leg: "Alpha Victoria, Kael is a beastly psycho! How is he any better than me?"
The cold blade pressed against my throat, right against my carotid artery.
If Liam pushed it even a millimeter forward, I would bleed out on the spot.
"Alpha Victoria, Sophie didn't mean to! She just accidentally wandered into the study. She had no idea those were the pack's core secrets!"
Liam’s eyes were bloodshot. He shielded the trembling woman behind him, looking at me with a heart-wrenching mix of pain and defiance.
"Why do you have to be so relentless? Will you only be satisfied if you cut off one of her hands?!"
Sophie, hiding behind him, sobbed like a helpless victim, clutching his shirt tightly. "Liam, don't defy Alpha Victoria for me. It's all my fault. I'll give my hand to Alpha Victoria right now..."
"Sophie, don't be afraid. As long as I'm here, no one touches you today."
Liam’s voice was dripping with tenderness. But when he turned his gaze back to me, his eyes instantly iced over.
"Alpha Victoria, you are too cold-blooded. Even if she made a mistake, you could just banish her. Why resort to such cruelty?"
I looked down at the blade at my throat and suddenly found it hilarious.
Ten years of blood, sweat, and resources, and I had raised a white-eyed wolf that bit the hand that fed him.
"Liam." I didn’t even blink. My voice was dead calm. "Did I never teach you what happens to a Beta of the Silver Moon Pack who points a blade at their Alpha?"
Liam froze, a flicker of hesitation crossing his eyes. But as he felt Sophie trembling behind him, his grip on the hilt tightened once more.
"Alpha Victoria, my life was given to me by you. If I have to, I’ll give it back. But today, I am taking Sophie with me."
He raised his chin with a self-righteous, arrogant pride.
He thought I would compromise like I used to, out of reluctance to lose his strength or out of sentimentality for our ten-year bond.
Too bad for him. He miscalculated.
After a long silence, I chuckled.
"Fine."
I took a step back, slipping away from the blade, and snapped my fingers.
Almost instantly, sixteen dark shadows materialized from the corners of the hall like ghosts, surrounding Liam and Sophie.
These were the elite warriors of the Silver Moon Pack, every single one of them once Liam's subordinates.
Liam’s face paled as he finally realized something was wrong. "Alpha Victoria, you..."
"Since you want to play her knight in shining armor so badly, you can return everything the Silver Moon Pack gave you."
I looked at him coldly, as if looking at a corpse. "Do it. Sever his tendons."
The floating comments from those unseen viewers flared up in a frenzy:
[Omg! This Victoria Sterling is too ruthless! Liam protected her for ten years, and just because he didn't choose her this once, she ruins him?]
[The love of an Alpha Female is terrifying. If she can't have him, she destroys him. What's wrong with Liam saving his sweetheart?]
[Alphas are just cold-blooded. So what if it was a secret document? Is that more important than a human hand?]
[Run, Liam! This toxic woman doesn't deserve your loyalty. Go to Sophie, she is your salvation!]
"Victoria Sterling! Are you insane?!" Liam roared in disbelief.
But he didn't stand a chance.
To protect Sophie, his movements were clumsy and restricted. Within three moves, he was pinned to the floor by two elite warriors.
"Ah!"
Along with Sophie’s high-pitched shriek, the sickening sound of silver blades slicing through flesh and tendons echoed through the hall.
Liam let out a muffled, agonizing scream, curling into a ball on the floor, his limbs twitching uselessly.
The comments went absolutely wild:
[Holy crap! She actually did it! That's so toxic!]
[What's the difference between treating a wolf like a dog? This is straight-up abuse!]
[Liam is so tragic. He gave up everything for love. Victoria Sterling, you will regret this!]
Regret?
I stared down at Liam's pale, sweat-slicked face with cold indifference.
The butler, sharp as always, stepped forward and handed me a document.
It was the blood oath Liam had sworn years ago.As one of the four oldest packs in the werewolf world, the Silver Moon Pack didn't rely solely on mate bonds or mind links to secure loyalty.
We still used blood oaths.
Right in front of Liam, I set fire to the contract stamped with his bloody handprint, and ordered his expensive clothes from his room to be thrown into the courtyard brazier.
This meant he was officially banished. He was no longer a member of the Silver Moon Pack.
The flames roared, reflecting on Liam's desperate and humiliated face.
"Throw him and his woman out of the Silver Moon territory like the trash they are."
I took a damp towel from a tray and slowly wiped my neck where his blade had touched.
The tiny scratch had already healed, but my anger hadn't.
To be honest, my inner wolf was roaring to rip his throat out, but I didn't want his dirty blood on my hands.
Keeping him alive was a far better punishment. Death would have been a mercy.
"Get out. Don't dirty my territory ever again."
After Liam was dragged out, the servants and guards held their breath, terrified to make a sound.
No one expected Liam—the man I had spoiled for ten years and the second-in-command of the pack—to be discarded so ruthlessly.
The butler swallowed hard and stepped forward. "Alpha Victoria, the Beta position is vacant now. Should we promote someone from the Delta warriors, or..."
"Get the car ready," I interrupted, tossing the towel back onto the tray. "We're going to the underground arena."
The butler gasped. "You're picking someone yourself?"
An Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack could never be without a personal guard.
But I hated secondhand things. My shadow warrior had to be a wolf I picked myself—someone whose loyalty belonged solely to me.
The Silver Creek underground arena was the most chaotic, dark, and lawless place in the city.
There was only one rule here: a fight to the death.
One of the fighters had to die. No ties, no surrenders, no mercy.
Only the one who walked out of the steel cage alive was entitled to one percent of the betting pool.
The stands were packed with frenzied gamblers, screaming, cursing, and cheering for their bets.
The air was thick with the copper stench of blood, cheap tobacco, and nauseating sweat.
When the arena owner heard of my arrival, he practically scrambled out to greet me, flatteringly offering me a roster of his "top-tier" fighters.
I watched the beasts tearing each other apart in the cage, flipping through the pages, but nothing caught my eye.
Too weak.
None of them were what I wanted.
Frustrated, I stood up to leave.
Just as I was about to step out of the VIP box, a sickening bone-crushing sound echoed from the octagonal cage below, followed by a collective gasp from the crowd.
I paused and looked down.
In the cage, two giant wolves were locked in a death match.
A pitch-black wolf had completely taken the upper hand.
He was a whole size smaller than his opponent, but his fighting style was wildly feral and completely suicidal. He had his jaws clamped tightly around the other wolf's throat.
The larger grey wolf thrashed violently, clawing deep gouges into the concrete floor, but the black wolf's jaw was like a vice, locked in place. Blood gushed from between his teeth.
The crowd's cheers nearly blew the roof off.
Within moments, the grey wolf’s struggles weakened until his limbs went stiff, completely breathless.
Only then did the black wolf let go, stepping onto his opponent's corpse and letting out a deafening roar.
It was a victor's declaration, and a death toll for any future challengers.
Then, amidst the roaring cheers, he shifted back into his human form.
He was covered in blood. His bare torso was covered in intricate, wild black thorn tattoos that crept all the way up his neck.
"Alpha Victoria, don't mind him," the owner stammered, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"He's an untamed rogue. No name, just goes by 'Kael'. He bites anyone he sees and refuses to submit. Just last week, he killed a..."
Before the owner could finish, I raised my hand to silence him.
I walked to the edge of the box, looking down at him.
Suddenly, the rogue, still high on adrenaline, seemed to sense my gaze.
Under the harsh spotlight, my eyes locked with a pair of dark, savage, and intensely obsessive eyes.
He saw me.
With just one second of eye contact, the wild rage in his eyes miraculously vanished.
To the absolute shock of the crowd, he crawled to the edge of the steel mesh and knelt humbly on the floor, right in front of where my heels stood above. His chest heaved violently, and deep, ragged breaths escaped his throat.
The comments flashed instantly:
[What the hell? That's the psycho rogue who kills everyone! Is Alpha Victoria crazy?!]
[Victoria Sterling isn't seriously going to choose this rogue, is she? He looks like he could snap at any second!]
[How can a rogue ever be loyal? Alpha Victoria is playing with fire!]
Ignoring the comments, I slowly squatted down on the other side of the fence.
"Take me with you," he rasped, his voice raw. "My name is Kael. Take me, and my life is yours."
I raised an eyebrow, looking at those untamed yet fiercely burning eyes.
"You want to be my subordinate?"
He nodded frantically, his pupils dilated with heat, his breath hitching.
I stood up and glanced at the stunned owner, calmly uttering two words:
"Deal. Him."
The owner looked troubled. "Alpha Victoria, this rogue... he's a maniac."
"How much?" I cut him off.
"Are... are you sure?"
"I asked you, how much?"
The owner swallowed and named a price.
I didn't even bother negotiating. I simply had the butler write a check.
Once Kael was brought back to the Silver Moon Pack, the first thing I did was order the pack's chief healer to detox him.
To control the fighters, the arena regularly injected them with a custom wolf venom. The doses were small, but highly addictive. Once they went cold turkey, they would lose their minds and attack anyone.
The detox process was brutal.
The venom had been in Kael's system for years, and the withdrawal symptoms were violent.
Locked in the isolation room, his body convulsed. He dug his nails deep into his palms, drawing blood. He was like a trapped beast, letting out suppressed roars, his body arching and collapsing in sheer agony.
Yet, he never called out my name in weakness.
The healer reported to me through the glass, "Alpha Victoria, the withdrawal will last at least three days. He's in extreme pain and might self-harm. Should we administer sedatives?"
I recalled the look in his eyes back in the cage.
"No," I said. "Let him endure it."
And he did.
Three days later, the healer announced the venom was entirely gone. I opened the door and found him curled up in the corner, soaked in sweat, looking exhausted and gaunt.
But the moment he saw me, he literally crawled over.
He knelt at my feet, resting his forehead against my shoe, his voice so raspy it was barely a whisper:
"Alpha Victoria... I didn't make a fool of myself in front of you..."
Those were his very first words.
I had told him at the arena that if I took him, he had to give me his life.
He took it literally.
Less than a week after recovering, I threw him straight into the Silver Moon Pack's elite warrior training camp.
Liam had grown up in the pack, taking three years of step-by-step training to pass the ultimate elite trials.
Kael took only two weeks.
He was like a tireless, pain-immune killing machine, frantically absorbing every skill to kill and survive.
Combat, hunting, counter-surveillance, extreme endurance... he dragged himself through mud and blood.
Every time he fell, the mere mention of my name acted like a shot of adrenaline. He would drag himself back up, shaking, and pin his opponent to the ground.
The comments were filled with doubt and worry:
[He's not a normal werewolf. He's an emotionless killing machine!]
[He used to be a rogue. Who knows when he'll snap? Alpha Victoria is taking too big of a risk!]
[A rogue is always a rogue. The wildness is in their blood. Once Liam heals, he'll show this stray his place!]
[Just wait, this crazy wolf is going to turn on her. Alpha Victoria is gambling with her life.]I watched the foolish comments, taking a sip of my black coffee.
Nobility and elegance? In a dog-eat-dog world, nobility was the most useless thing.
I needed a weapon that was razor-sharp and would never turn against me, not some sentimental saint.
A month later, the annual high-society charity gala of Silver Creek took place.
I turned down all other male companions and made a grand entrance with a completely transformed Kael.
The moment we stepped into the ballroom, the buzzing crowd instantly fell silent.
"Is that the new guard beside Alpha Victoria? His aura is terrifying..."
"I heard Liam was banished. I thought she'd be mourning him for a while, but she replaced him so fast."
"This new guy looks way fiercer than Liam. Classic Victoria Sterling..."
I grabbed a glass of champagne, effortlessly mingling with the guests.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a commotion in the corner of the hall.
I turned my head and locked eyes with someone filled with shock and humiliation.
Liam was wearing a cheap, ill-fitting suit, looking like a low-rent bouncer as he shielded a trembling Sophie from the bustling crowd.
The moment our eyes met, Liam turned pale as a sheet.
His gaze locked onto Kael, who stood proudly by my side—in the very spot that used to belong to him.
The sheer drop in status and the intense humiliation made Liam's body tremble uncontrollably.
Sophie saw me, too.
Her eyes flickered, and she intentionally dragged Liam over, limping as they approached.
"Alpha Victoria..." Sophie spoke, her voice trembling like a victim.
"I know you hate me. You banished Liam from Silver Creek, and our lives have been so hard."
"We only came here tonight to beg for a job. Please, show some mercy. Stop blocking us from getting hired..."
Her words were laced with tears, painting me as a tyrant trying to ruin a pair of star-crossed lovers.
Several guests around us started throwing judgmental looks my way.
Seeing Sophie cry, Liam instinctively shielded her. "Victoria Sterling, if you have a problem, take it out on me. Don't make things hard for—"
Before he could finish, things escalated.
Kael, who had been standing silently by my side, suddenly took a massive step forward.
His movement was like lightning. Before anyone could react, a loud *BANG* echoed through the room!
Kael pinned Liam against the marble wall by his throat with a single hand.
The impact made Liam gasp in pain. He desperately tried to pry Kael's fingers off, but Kael's arm was like solid steel, unyielding.
"Ah! Murder! Let go of Liam!" Sophie screamed.
The room fell dead silent. Everyone was paralyzed by the sudden violence.
Kael tilted his head, his voice dripping with deadly coldness:
"Who do you think you are, calling Alpha Victoria by her name?"
