My wife was eight months pregnant and critically injured in a car crash. My father-in-law begged me to save her.
I stared at him with cold detachment. "Who is she? I don't know her."
He yelled in fury, "Logan, have you lost your damn mind?! Angela is your wife! Your marriage certificate is sitting right at home, and you claim you don't know her?!"
Her mother sobbed, "Logan, Angela sacrificed everything for this family! How can you fake amnesia right now? Where is your conscience?!"
I said, "Who is Angela? The only woman I love is Chloe."
My wife looked at me, weeping. "Do our child and I really mean less to you than your college ex?"
Without a single beat of hesitation, I replied, "Yes."
Angela lay crumpled on the pavement, severely injured. Crimson blood pooled at her forehead and dripped down her pale cheek.
"Logan... please, save our baby..." Her trembling hands desperately cradled her swollen belly.
I stood up and glanced at the gathering crowd, my eyes vacant and chilly.
"Excuse me, but who are you? I don't know you."
Gasps of horror erupted from the bystanders.
Angela's father, Robert, grabbed my arm, his face flushed crimson with rage. "Logan, have you lost your damn mind?! Angela is your wife!"
"Your marriage certificate is still sitting at home, and you dare say you don't know her?!"
I shook off his grip and stepped back.
"You've got the wrong guy. I don't know any Angela. I don't have a wife, and I don't have a child."
"Where is Chloe? Chloe is the only one I love! Who the hell are you people?!"
Her mother, Martha, collapsed to her knees beside her daughter, her trembling fingers trying to wipe the blood from Angela's face.
"Logan, do you have any idea how much Angela gave up for this family?"
"To pretend you have amnesia right now... how can you be so heartless?!"
Whispers rippled through the onlookers as they raised their phones, aiming their cameras right at me and Angela on the ground.
"What a scumbag! Abandoning his pregnant wife just to chase after an ex?"
The wail of a siren cut through the pouring rain. Paramedics rushed toward Angela with a stretcher, but I stepped right into their path. "Wait. What do you think you're doing?"
The paramedic frowned. "The patient is in critical condition! We need to get her to the hospital immediately!"
"I called and paid for this ambulance," I snapped. "You do what I say. Take me to find Chloe."
The paramedic's face twisted in shock. "Sir, your wife's injuries are severe, and the unborn baby is in extreme danger!"
"I already told you," I said coldly. "She isn't my wife, and that isn't my baby."
Outraged shouts exploded from the crowd.
"Monster!"
"He's leaving them to die!"
"His pregnant wife gets hit by a car, and all he cares about is his first love?"
"Her water broke on the asphalt, and he's chasing another woman?!"
"Whatever," I muttered casually. "Take her if you want. I'm going to find Chloe myself."
As they lifted Angela onto the stretcher, her tears mingled with the rain. She stubbornly reached out, trying to grab my sleeve.
"Logan... five years together... did none of it leave a trace in your heart?"
I looked down at her coldly. "Sorry. Compared to a total stranger like you, I'd rather find my Chloe."
A single tear rolled down Angela's cheek, and her hand fell limp.
"You aren't going anywhere!" Robert shoved a heavy hand onto my shoulder. "You don't leave until you explain yourself!"
"Get off me! Who the hell are you?! It's none of your business where I go!"
"Let him go..." Angela whispered weakly from the stretcher. "I believe... my husband will remember me. Logan... I'll wait for you to come back..."
The moment the ambulance doors slammed shut, I turned on my heel and walked in the exact opposite direction.
The harsh curses echoing behind me fell on completely deaf ears.I stood outside a high-end nail salon right next to the hospital, rain dripping down my face.
Through the glass window, I saw Chloe relaxing in a plush chair, letting a manicurist paint her nails.
I shoved the door open, rushed across the room, and dropped to one knee before her.
"Chloe, I finally found you!"
Every customer in the salon turned to stare, whispering frantically.
"Who is that guy?" "Wait, isn't he that scumbag trending all over TikTok for abandoning his pregnant wife?!"
Chloe looked up, shock flashing through her eyes before she smoothed her expression into cool poise. "Logan? What are you doing here?"
"Chloe, please, I just need to talk to you!"
"I heard you lost your memory?" She arched an eyebrow.
"Chloe, you're the only person I remember. I've forgotten everyone else."
"Even your wife who's eight months pregnant? The whole internet is dragging your name through the mud." A flicker of smug delight passed across Chloe's face, quickly replaced by feigned indifference.
I stayed on my knees, taking her hands in mine. "I only love you. I never stopped. People told me about my past with Angela, but none of that matters now. All I know is that you're the only one I could never forget."
"Those lost memories are meaningless. The only thing that matters right now is that I love you, and only you!" I pressed my forehead gently against the back of her hand.
My phone rang loudly, shattering the moment. It was the hospital.
"Mr. Hayes! Your wife is hemorrhaging heavily. We urgently need your Rh-negative blood! Please get here immediately—"
"I don't have a wife," I cut in. "My blood belongs to Chloe and Chloe alone."
"Sir, there are two lives on the line! Your wife is already—"
"I need to stay healthy for Chloe. Chloe is going to have my children one day. I can't waste my blood on anyone else."
I hung up. Chloe's eyes gleamed with stunning intensity.
"You really... did that for me?"
"Chloe, I can't survive without you."
The salon doors burst open, and my parents stormed inside.
"Logan! Are you out of your mind?! Angela and the baby are dying!" My father lunged forward, grabbing my collar.
My mother fell to her knees, tears streaming down her face. "Son, I'm begging you! Angela's condition is terrible. The doctors said if she doesn't get blood right now, the baby won't make it!"
"I don't know any Angela! I only love Chloe!" I shoved my father's hands away violently.
Chloe gently caressed my cheek. "Don't worry, Logan. I'm right here."
My father's face twisted with fury as he grabbed me again. "Do you truly not remember a single thing Angela did for you?!"
I offered a contemptuous smirk. "I only remember Chloe's goodness. Everyone else means nothing to me."
"Your child isn't even born yet and you're already abandoning him! You absolute monster!"
My mother wept hysterically. "Angela was so good to you! How could you be this cruel?!"
Onlookers whipped out their phones, frantically recording every second of this grotesque spectacle.
"Look at him! That's the guy who dumped his pregnant wife!" "Total sociopath confirmed!"
I grabbed Chloe's hand. "Let's go. Ignore these crazy people."
Chloe made a show of lightly pushing me away. "Logan, are you really just going to let your wife die?"
Her lips said one thing, but her eyes danced with raw triumph and excitement.
"In my heart, you are my only wife."
I opened the car door for her, casting a freezing glare at my parents and the crowd.
As Chloe slipped into the passenger seat, the corners of her lips curled into a viciously satisfied smirk. My phone buzzed in my pocket—my father calling again. I pretended not to feel it.
Beside me in the car, Chloe was giggling uncontrollably, thrilled by her victory.
Five minutes later, my father called again. I had no choice but to pick up.
"Logan, someone stepped up with a rare Rh-negative donation. Angela and the baby are temporarily out of danger," my father said, relief thick in his voice.
"Oh. What does that have to do with me?"
"Get back to the hospital right now and take care of your wife! The doctor said she could wake up any minute!"
"Not happening." I glanced sideways at Chloe. Her eyes were sparkling with anticipation. "I'm busy shopping with Chloe. Whatever she wants, I'm buying."
On the other end of the line, my father fell dead silent.
I hung up. Chloe laced her fingers through mine with pure delight, leading me into the luxury mall.
Someone had secretly snapped photos of me kneeling before Chloe at the salon. Someone else posted video footage of me publicly abandoning my dying wife.
Within hours, the content spread across social media like a wildfire.
"Look at this! This is the scumbag who abandoned his pregnant wife at a crash scene to chase his college ex!"
"His wife was in critical condition and he refused to donate blood, saying he had to save it for his ex!"
"His wife is severely injured, the baby was delivered prematurely and hanging by a thread in the NICU, yet he didn't care at all. He spent the entire night in his ex-girlfriend's arms!"
By the next morning, the hotel entrance was swarming with reporters holding cameras and microphones.
The moment I stepped out of the lobby, flashes went off like a thunderstorm.
"Mr. Hayes, do you genuinely have amnesia?"
"Why haven't you visited your wife and newborn baby?"
"When exactly did you rekindle your relationship with Ms. Vance?"
"Did Angela know you were cheating on her?"
Their questions pelted me like machine-gun fire.
"Yes, I lost my memory," I said calmly into the mics. "I only know about my past with Angela from what other people told me."
"However, I feel nothing for Angela now. All I know is that the only person I love is Chloe Vance."
Another flurry of flashes blinded the street.
An influencer shoved a phone directly into my face, staring me down. "Can you look into this camera and say with a straight conscience that five years with your loyal wife means less to you than a college ex you only dated for a few months?"
"Since losing my memory, those five years mean absolutely nothing to me," I answered without a single heartbeat of hesitation. My voice rang out clear and unwavering. "My heart only remembers one woman. And that is Chloe."
Back in her sterile hospital room, Angela held her phone with trembling fingers. The screen flashed with my cold, ruthless words. Every syllable felt like a serrated blade tearing through her chest. Tears spilled uncontrollably down her face as her heart shattered into pieces.
She couldn't bring herself to believe that Logan, the husband who had loved her so deeply, could be this callous.
She wanted to dial my number, but her thumb froze over the screen. She was terrified of hearing my voice dripping with disgust, terrified of facing my icy rejection. Her finger hovered, trembled, and finally let the phone slip onto the sheets.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Chloe scrolled through the video of my public declaration alongside the avalanche of internet hate directed at me. A wicked sense of pride swelled inside her.
She smirked with cruel satisfaction. In her mind, her charm was simply irresistible—powerful enough to make Logan burn his entire world to the ground just to crawl back to her feet.On the third day, I stepped out of the hotel entrance.
"Logan Hayes!"
Jason's roar tore through the lobby courtyard.
Pedestrians stopped in their tracks. Several people immediately pulled out their phones to film the drama.
"Chloe is my girlfriend! You useless, brain-damaged freak, who the hell gave you permission to mess with her?!" Jason's eyes were shot through with broken red capillaries.
"I love Chloe," I replied simply.
Jason's fist crashed hard into my jaw. I didn't dodge. Blood instantly welled at the corner of my mouth.
"Who the hell do you think you're fooling?!" He gripped my lapels and slammed me back against the stone pillar.
"Chloe belongs to me! We've been together for three months! What the hell are you?!" Jason spat.
Losing all control, Jason began raining punches and kicks down on me.
"Stop it!" Chloe screamed, rushing forward to pull him away and steady me.
Suddenly, a commotion stirred in the crowd. My parents pushed a wheelchair through the onlookers. Sitting in it was Angela, her face as pale as a ghost.
Her eyes were swollen and raw from weeping, filled with pure agony and terror.
"Logan... are you okay?" Her voice was barely a fragile rasp.
I deliberately turned my head away, pretending I hadn't heard her.
"You pathetic loser, you threw away your own wife and kid, and now you have the nerve to steal my girl?!" Jason jeered, pointing an accusing finger at me.
Chloe shoved Jason back and clung to my side. "Logan, are you hurt?"
"Chloe, are you insane?! This guy has a wife and a baby!" Jason couldn't believe his own eyes.
I struggled to stand upright, but I made sure my hand stayed locked firmly around Chloe's.
Seeing that, fresh tears spilled over Angela's cheeks. "Logan... please come home. We can raise our baby together. You promised you were going to be the best father in the whole world..."
I stood there, completely unmoved, a cold sneer playing on my lips.
My father, trembling with incandescent rage, whipped out a document and slammed it against my chest.
"Here is the DNA paternity test! That child is your own flesh and blood! How much longer are you going to keep up this disgusting amnesia act?!"
My parents screamed at me, calling me heartless, a monster who abandoned his own newborn. Angela's parents stood beside them, trembling with grief, hurling curses at my betrayal.
I glanced down at the paper on the pavement and scoffed.
"A paternity test? It means nothing to me."
Angela's parents rushed toward me, tears streaming down their weathered faces. "Logan, we treated you like our own son! How could you do this to us?!"
Jason spat violently onto the ground. "You're lower than a dog! You're an absolute piece of garbage!"
My father's face darkened with rage. He took a massive stride forward, raising his right hand high to strike me across the face.
I didn't flinch or pull back. I just looked him dead in the eye, waiting for the blow to land.
Suddenly, Chloe threw herself in front of me, her slender frame standing tall like a shield.
"Don't you dare touch him! He has amnesia! None of this is his fault!" Her voice shrieked so sharply it pierced everyone's ears.
She spun around to glare at Jason, her eyes freezing cold. "Jason, we're over. Don't ever contact me again."
Jason's face drained of color, his lips trembling violently.
"Chloe... are you crazy? Dumping me for this scumbag?!" He pointed at me, bewildered.
Chloe linked her arm possessively through mine and announced to the entire crowd, "I am officially with Logan Hayes. We love each other, and we don't need anyone's permission."
I gave her a gentle nod, letting her support me as we walked away.
Behind us, Angela shook uncontrollably in her wheelchair. "Logan... please don't leave..."
Jason screamed behind our backs, "Logan Hayes, you sick bastard, karma is going to tear you apart!"
I heard horrified gasps ripple through the crowd; Angela's parents had likely collapsed under the sheer weight of the shock.
Chloe squeezed my hand tightly, her eyes ablaze with triumphant light. "We can finally be together forever."
As the sounds of weeping and cursing faded into the distance, a quiet, deadly smirk crossed my lips.
The real show was finally about to begin.
