Synopsis
I hide my identity as the Alpha King's only daughter so I can live an ordinary life with Ivan Attridge.
On the day I realize I'm pregnant, Ivan comes home to me, his body covered in wounds.
He looks at me sadly. "Chloe, please forgive me for keeping you in the dark all this while… I'm actually the sole heir of the Moonveil pack. My father is very sick now, and I have to take over as Alpha. But my family requires me to marry Iris Webb, the daughter of the Stormborn pack's Alpha."
Noticing my silence, he nervously grabs my hand. "Darling, I promise I'll only love you. Once Iris gives birth to my heir, I'll return to you."
I shake my head and hold his hand tighter. "You don't have to do that. I'm pregnant. He can be your heir."
After his initial surprise, Ivan falls silent. He looks at my face with pity and says softly, "The Moonveil pack only accepts heirs born from a union of the purest bloodlines."
I let out a mocking laugh when I hear that. "What if I told you I have the purest bloodline too?"

Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Ivan Attridge laughed when he heard my words. "Come on, darling. Now is not the time to joke around. I know you want me all to yourself, but I can't abandon my duty as Alpha of the Moonveil pack.
"I don't care that your bloodline is ordinary, but my family needs the power and prestige that my union will bring."
I shut my mouth and stopped trying to prove who I really was. Everything had happened so suddenly that I struggled to come to terms with it.
Just yesterday, Ivan had been here in this cabin he built for me with his own hands, holding me close.
My vision gradually blurred as an uncomfortable tightness settled in my chest, making it hard for me to speak. "Ivan, are you really going to abandon the pup and me to marry a stranger?"
If he denied it now, we could still live like we always had, sharing a happy life.
No. We could be even happier, because soon we'd have a pup who looked like both of us.
Ivan looked away, his expression conflicted, but he didn't deny what I said. He took my hand and brought it to his lips, kissing it gently.
"Chloe, I won't abandon you and our pup. I'll bring you back to the pack with me. Even if I marry Iris, you and the pup will still be the closest to my heart. I won't let anyone hurt either of you. Trust me, okay?"
My tears finally fell.
Ivan looked at me and sighed. "When we return to the pack, I'll give you a better life than the one you have now."
I pulled my hand free. "No. This is our home."
Ivan frowned and said softly, just as he used to when I was being stubborn. "Don't be stubborn. How are you supposed to live on your own after leaving me?
"I shook off those annoying wolves following me and came here to see you. They keep a close watch on me and won't let me go anywhere until I complete the ceremony with Iris.
"This cabin isn't safe anymore. If they find out about you, they might hurt you and the pup."
I stared at him. "Then why don't you just leave with me? Ivan, we can go anywhere in this world."
Ivan was about to say something when a sudden noise and burst of chaos came from outside. A group of werewolves barged into the cabin.
One of them said, "Ivan, you need to come back with us. You'll have the bonding ceremony with Ms. Webb in three days."
The members of the Moonveil pack looked at me with contempt and disgust when they saw me standing beside Ivan.
"So you're the she-wolf who's been with Ivan all this time? I can tell at a glance your bloodline is impure." The leading wolf sneered. "Ivan, your taste is questionable. If you ask me, someone like her couldn't even hold a candle to Ms. Webb."
I looked at Ivan, dumbfounded, but he didn't even try to speak up for me.
When Ivan's brother, Owen Attridge, realized that Ivan wasn't going to object, he signaled to the people behind him. "Burn this place down. It'd be a damn joke if people found out the new Alpha had lived in a cabin like this."
They set the cabin on fire, reducing to ashes the home Ivan and I had carefully built together over the past five years. The flames mercilessly devoured everything, from the flowers and dining table to the bright, happy smiles in our photos together.
And Ivan just stood beside me and watched it all happen, not even bothering to stop them.
I cried out in despair. "Let me go… My necklace is still inside!"
Ivan had carved that token of our love himself from animal bone on the night we got together.
He quickly wrapped his arms around me, holding me back. "It's fine! All that matters is that you're safe. I'll get you another necklace!"
Just like that, everything from the past five years burned to ashes before my very eyes.
My heart broke as I realized that some things, no matter how much I wished otherwise, would never come back.
Chapter 2
Five years ago, I ran away rather than accept the marriage Father had arranged for me. While hiding from those searching for me, I met Ivan, who was traveling alone.
"Hey, are you out on an adventure?" he teased, eyeing my dirty clothes.
Ivan wasn't upset when I ignored him. Instead, he followed me around like he had nothing better to do, occasionally bringing me food, clothes, and little trinkets he'd come across.
Apparently convinced that I was a helpless she-wolf who couldn't survive on my own, he became my uninvited but surprisingly capable bodyguard, driving off everyone who came looking for me.
When I told Ivan I was running away from an arranged marriage, he merely raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Where are you planning to run off to? Why not take me with you?"
He said it while he worked on the cabin with his shirt off, the moonlight spilling across his solid muscles. Sweat trickled down his abs, making him look incredibly sexy.
I had to admit, I was falling for this passionate yet gentle wolf.
And soon, we became mates and moved into the little cabin he had built himself.
But now, our home was gone.
I could only follow Ivan back to his pack, where I was given a beautifully decorated house that felt utterly lifeless. It stood in a secluded corner, with only one or two people occasionally passing by.
Still, there were always guards stationed outside, keeping watch over me. I wasn't allowed to leave until Ivan and Iris completed their bonding ceremony.
I'd asked Ivan to bond with me before, but he always caressed my face and gently refused. "Oh, Chloe, things between us are too uncertain right now. I can't let you bear that kind of risk and pain."
Now, he would be bonding with Iris Webb in three days.
I closed my eyes and finally made up my mind. In three days, I would leave with my pup and return to Father. I wouldn't wait for Ivan anymore.
I had lost him and our home, but I still had my pup. I couldn't keep my pup in a place that wasn't truly ours, where he'd have to endure other people's contempt. I would take him back to our real home.
The night before the ceremony, Ivan came to me.
"Chloe, do you remember my promise to get you a new necklace?" Ivan's voice was soft as he took a moonstone necklace from the box and put it around my neck. "I picked the brightest one from the pack's treasure. It suits you."
I slipped away from his reach. "No. I just want that bone necklace."
Ivan retracted his hand in embarrassment and smiled. "What's so special about that necklace? Look at this one. It looks like the whole moon is set into it. Isn't it prettier than that bone necklace?"
He had clearly forgotten that the bone necklace was the token of our love.
My gaze landed on the ring finger of his left hand, where a ring I'd never seen before now sat. Before he could honor the promise he'd made to me, he'd already adorned his hand with a token meant for someone else.
Noticing where I was looking, Ivan explained guiltily, "I'm only wearing this for tomorrow's ceremony. Once it's over, I'll take it off. Darling, I'll make another ring for you myself and put it on your finger."
"I don't need it." I closed my eyes and said quietly, "Ivan, once everything is over tomorrow, can you have the people guarding this place leave?"
Ivan looked a little flustered. "Of course. They're only here to protect you."
"You promise?"
"Yes."
I finally relaxed and gazed at the wolf I'd shared countless days and nights with for the past five years, knowing this might be the last time I'd ever see him.
The heartache I'd kept buried for so long surged up at last, swallowing me like a rising tide. And Ivan had no idea what was going on.
He brought some pastries and placed them in front of me. "You haven't eaten all day. Come on. Be good. Eat something, okay? I don't want you to go hungry."
I picked up a piece and took a small bite, deciding to ask him one last time. "Ivan, could you please not bond with Iris?"
Chapter 3
Ivan gave me a long look before shaking his head. "Chloe, I have to take responsibility for my pack. Iris is a kind she-wolf… She prepared these pastries for you."
A wave of nausea overwhelmed me. I put down what was left of the piece and didn't take another bite.
Ivan frowned, wanting to say something, when someone rushed in and shouted, "Ivan, Iris suddenly fainted. You should go check on her."
Ivan immediately stood up, appearing quite anxious. "What? I'll go over there now."
At the same time, a sudden pain hit my abdomen. I clenched my stomach, realizing that someone might have added something to those pastries.
"Ivan, wait…" I tried to reach for the hem of his shirt.
Ivan seemed annoyed by my reaction. "Chloe, stop it. Iris needs me. Once this is over, I'll be with you, okay?"
With that, he left decisively without sparing me another glance.
I felt desperate. I wanted to cry out for help, but my whole body was burning and weak. A wave of spasms shook me, and I couldn't even make a sound.
Luckily, someone walked in soon after.
Trembling, I grabbed the hem of their shirt and begged, "Please… save me and my pup…"
"So you're Chloe, huh?" A female voice came from above me, followed by a soft laugh. "Did you enjoy the pastries I made for you?"
My whole body went rigid. Fighting through the pain, I forced myself to lift my head and saw an elegantly poised she-wolf standing over me.
"It's you, Iris… You made those pastries? What did you put in them?"
Iris flashed me a sweet smile. "Hmm… flour, sugar, butter, and just a little Wolfsbane."
Tears of hatred rolled down my cheeks.
"Don't blame me, okay? Why would you get pregnant with Ivan's pup in the first place?" With a slight tug, she pulled her hand away and shook mine off with disdain. "I'm the one who is supposed to be with him. If anyone finds out about the bastard, I'll become a disgrace to the pack."
I asked coldly, "Aren't you afraid I'll come back for revenge?"
Iris laughed so hard she could barely stand, wiping away tears of amusement. "What could a nobody like you possibly do against me? Do you think you're the Alpha King's daughter?"
I had been so close to taking my pup safely home. I promised myself I would never let them get away with this.
I deliberately knocked the pastries off the table in the commotion, so Iris wouldn't realize that I'd only taken one bite.
Iris waved her hand in disgust. "What a crude thing to do."
Noticing that I was lying over the table, trembling nonstop, she smiled and watched me for a moment before ordering her lackeys.
"Clean up this place and lock the door. Don't let our guest wander around and cause trouble for anyone else. Also, tell the wolves stationed outside to keep a close watch on her. Tomorrow is my bonding ceremony. Nothing can go wrong."
The door shut, cutting off all the noise outside, while I curled up on the floor, writhing in agony. Bracing myself against the cold ground, I reached into the pocket near my chest and pulled out a pendant. By the moonlight, I could make out its shape.
It was a keepsake Grandmother had left me. When I was young, Mother gave me this peculiar-looking piece, telling me it had the power to heal me, calm my wolf, and even contain an emergency antidote.
As my consciousness began to fade, I smashed open the pendant and swallowed the antidote.
The warmth that filled my body slowly drained away. Just before I slipped into darkness, I heard the familiar voices of my family calling for me.
Chapter 4
By the time I woke up, it was the next day.
My wolf wasn't damaged, and I was so thankful that my pup had also managed to survive the fatal attack. I could sense him resting safely inside me.
I used my blood bond and successfully reached my parents.
They were relieved to hear from me, but when they learned what I'd gone through last night, Father was furious. He said he'd leave immediately and come here himself to take me and the pup home.
Tonight was Ivan and Iris' bonding ceremony.
I had no interest in anything they were doing anymore. I just wanted to leave as soon as the ceremony was over.
I had nothing to take with me. Even if I did, the love and memories I'd built over those five years had already been ruined a few days ago.
After night fell, the guards outside suddenly barged in and grabbed my arm.
"You sure are lucky. The previous Alpha wants you to join him at the bonding ceremony."
The Alpha he mentioned was Ivan's father, Wilder Attridge.
I felt uneasy, but the Wolfsbane from yesterday had weakened me significantly. I couldn't risk fighting them when I had my pup to protect.
The guards rushed in, grabbed my arm, and dragged me into the main hall where the bonding ceremony was taking place.
The hall was filled with flowers, and moonlight streamed through the tall windows onto the platform. Ivan and Iris stood side by side, looking almost holy.
An old, imposing wolf stepped out of the crowd with his cane and looked down at me. "So you're Chloe, the one who tried to cling to Ivan? You're the one who seduced him and kept him away from the pack for five whole years."
The guests cast strange looks my way.
"That's her? Some lowly she-wolf who abandoned her own pack, and now she thinks she can join ours?"
"How ridiculous. I've never seen such a shameless wolf."
Wilder gave me a cold, hard stare. "Since you've come to my pack, you're my guest. I'll make sure you're treated well. Tonight is Ivan and Iris' bonding ceremony. Shouldn't you offer them a few blessings as well?"
Ivan spotted me then. He came down from the platform, looking at me with a tense, confused expression. "Chloe? What are you doing here?"
Wilder snorted in contempt. "Shut up. Don't forget that you're the Alpha of the Moonveil pack now. You have a Luna."
Ivan paused and looked at me, reassurance and apology in his eyes.
It was only a few days ago that I believed he would stand by me no matter what. Now, I could only laugh at how foolish I'd been.
"I can take you into our pack and provide protection, but in return, you must swear here and now that you will never come between Ivan and Iris. And today, you'll mate with a pack member I choose."
Ivan cried out anxiously, "Father, you can't do this!"
He tried to come forward, but Iris immediately grabbed his hand. Her eyes were red as she pleaded with him, "Ivan, don't forget. This is our bonding ceremony."
Ivan froze.
Wilder waved his hand, and a ferocious-looking, disheveled wolf approached and reached out to touch me.
At the same time, a commotion came from outside, growing louder as it drew closer.
Several guards who had been patrolling outside rushed in and reported in a panic, "The Alpha King of the 13 Wolf pack is here!"
Everyone was stunned. Wilder burst into laughter, clearly delighted. "Great! Alpha King Gareth has come all this way to give us his blessing! All the tributes our two packs had sent to the 13 Wolf pack over the years have finally paid off!"
His face lit up as he ordered, "Quick! Go welcome Alpha King Gareth!"
Everyone's face brightened at once, as if his arrival had brought them honor already. They rushed forward and lined up on both sides, eager to see the man who possessed the purest bloodline and greatest power among the werewolves, hoping for his blessing and favor.
Iris was already lost in a dream of power and influence. She acted as if she'd suddenly won the favor of the highest power and become part of the nobility. With her arm linked through Ivan's, she walked to the front of the line, a smug smile on her face.
I stood at the back of the group, feeling my family's familiar presence getting closer. I missed them terribly, but I was nervous too.
After all, it had been five years since I'd seen my parents. I couldn't help but wonder how they would react when they saw me again.
Just then, Iris seemed to remember something and swiveled around to look at me. "Why is this bitch still here? Take her away! Don't let her embarrass me in front of Alpha King Gareth!"
Her people immediately came over. One of them pressed down hard on my back and shoved me to the ground.
My knees slammed into the floor, my arms pinned behind me as pain shot through my entire body.
A commanding wolf howl rang out. The Alpha King of the 13 Wolf pack burst through the door with his army.
Everything fell silent as I raised my head, humiliated, and met Father's gaze.
