Synopsis
My vampire boyfriend always treated me like his personal blood bag, convincing me that it was all in the name of love.
So, no matter how physically miserable I felt, as long as he wanted blood, I silently suffered through the agonizing pain of being drained.
When I fainted from low blood sugar during my period, he didn't care or check up on me. He just gave me a cold glare and blamed me for failing to keep supplying him with blood.
When I got into conflicts with other classmates and ended up hospitalized with injuries, the only thing on his mind was when I'd be able to bleed for him again.
I used to think vampires were just naturally cold, considering he was indifferent to everything at school.
That was until another human girl transferred in, and he showered her with a level of gentleness I had never once experienced.
When she caused trouble and got into fights, my boyfriend shielded her, dumping all the blame on me.
When she felt unwell, my boyfriend ordered me to stay up all night nursing her by her bedside.
I confronted him about why he treated that girl so differently, only for him to shrug it off with an impatient explanation.
"I'm doing all of this for you. If I'm good to her, she'll willingly become my new blood bag, and you won't have to keep supplying me with blood."
Even though I felt touched that he was supposedly looking out for me, I didn't want an innocent girl to suffer the pain of losing her blood either.
Just as I was preparing to persuade him not to hurt her, I accidentally overheard a conversation between them right outside the Student Council room.
"Magnus, when can I finally stand openly by your side?"
"Ivy, your body is too weak. You know I need blood to stay young, and I can't bear the thought of hurting you."
"I need Laura as my blood bag. Giving her the title of my girlfriend is the only way she'll willingly supply me with fresh blood."
It turned out that Magnus never loved me at all. I was nothing more than a walking blood bag to him.
Well, then I didn't want Magnus or his love anymore, either.

Chapter 1
"Magnus, you are such a bad boy. If Laura knew she was only a blood bag to you, it would break her heart."
"I don't care. The only person I care about is you, Ivy."
"Oh, stop it... not here..."
"Don't be shy, Ivy. You're absolute perfection... Laura isn't fit to breathe the same air as you."
Ivy’s giggles drifted out from inside the room. Right after that came intermittent moans and the loud thudding of furniture crashing together.
I stood right outside the door, listening to the sounds of their passion in a sickening form of self-torture.
Besides the overwhelming heartache, a suffocating wave of embarrassment washed over me.
They probably never imagined anyone would be standing right outside, listening in. So, they made no effort to keep it down, their movements growing rougher and their pillow talk turning vulgar.
"Magnus, who do you like more? Me, or Laura?"
"You, of course, my sweet baby."
...
[Let's break up.]
Unable to listen to their disgusting words for another second, I typed out the breakup text and walked away without looking back.
To say I wasn't heartbroken would be a lie.
Since I transferred to Monster Academy three years ago, Magnus was the only non-human in the entire school who showed me any warmth. He was also the only non-human who remembered my birthday and actually celebrated it with me.
On my very first birthday at the academy, he awkwardly held a small cake and shoved it in front of me.
"I heard you humans eat this thing called cake on your birthdays.
"What a hassle. Just take it already. Happy birthday."
Even though he complained and kept a cold, indifferent expression, my eyes instantly welled up with tears. I was deeply moved that he had actually remembered.
That was also the exact day Magnus asked me out.
"Hey. Do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Hearing that, I froze mid-bite, completely in disbelief.
When he didn't get the instant answer he expected, Magnus knitted his brows in frustration.
Chapter 2
"You better think this through. I'm the only one in this school who's willing to stick by you. If you reject me, you'll lose even me."
Looking back on it now, those words were nothing short of a threat. Instead, I mistook his poorly worded intentions for mere aloofness and pride.
Terrified of actually losing him, I nodded in a panic and agreed. "Yes, I'll be your girlfriend!"
Only when he saw me agree did his expression slowly soften.
"You know, Laura, I'm a vampire. As my girlfriend, it's your duty to provide me with your blood. If you can't do that, then we might as well break up right now!"
Even now, I can't tell whether I actually liked Magnus back then or was just clinging to him like a lifeline.
I didn't doubt his demand for a single second, assuming it was simply a cultural difference between vampires and humans.
At first, Magnus would only feed on my blood once a month. Each time, he controlled himself so I wouldn't faint from blood loss, and my body could barely manage to handle it.
Eventually, though, that frequency was no longer enough for him.
It went from once a month to once every two weeks, and then to once a week. If I hadn't begged him desperately, and if my body truly hadn't been on the verge of collapse, Magnus would have even pushed for a daily feeding schedule.
"Laura, I'm so disappointed in you. As a vampire's girlfriend, offering up your blood is your duty. Your body is just too useless, though. You know damn well that without blood, I age rapidly. Do you really want to watch me turn into an old man just because you can't handle it?"
After I passed out yet again from extreme blood loss, he left me behind with that impatient scolding. He couldn't have cared less whether I was in any danger while unconscious.
However, when I woke up, the first thing I did wasn't to check my body. Instead, like every other time before, I texted him to apologize and make peace.
[I'm sorry, Magnus. I didn't want this to happen either. I promise I'll give you enough blood next time.]
[I don't want to see you age. It's all my fault. Please don't ignore me.]
In this relationship, I had always been the pathetic, subservient one, unconditionally meeting Magnus' demands. I traded my own sacrifices for his faint, superficial affection, and in doing so, I turned myself into nothing more than his blood bag.
…
[What kind of fit are you throwing now? Just because I looked after Ivy? I already told you, the only reason I'm nice to her is so she'll willingly offer her blood to me. At the end of the day, isn't that just to give your body more time to recover?]
[Everything I'm doing is for your sake. Don't you think you're being completely unreasonable? For the sake of your weak body, I've been enduring the backlash of my bloodlust this whole time.]
[I'll pretend I never saw this message today. But if you keep throwing a tantrum, we're actually breaking up.]
[Without me, do you really think you can survive at Monster Academy?]
My phone vibrated continuously as Magnus bombarded me with messages.
It seemed he and Ivy were finished. That was a little faster than I had expected.
If Ivy hadn't shown up, I might have stayed trapped in this cage disguised as love forever. Thinking about it that way, I ought to thank her.
To be honest, I didn't hate Ivy. She was the only other human in this school, and I had really hoped to become friends with her. So, even when Magnus gave her extra attention and care, I never objected.
It was just that Magnus was too good to her—so good that I couldn't ignore the painful twist in my gut and that they looked like the actual couple...
Magnus would personally bake chocolate for Ivy just because she mentioned wanting some. He would also stay by her side all night when she had a fever.
Chapter 3
He even cherished the scarf Ivy gave him like a precious treasure, holding it close to his chest.
It was almost funny, really. I had once given Magnus a hand-knitted scarf, too. Back then, Magnus just took one look at it before throwing it straight onto the ground.
"Instead of wasting your time on these meaningless things, you'd be better off thinking about how to supply me with more blood!"
I originally thought he just disliked human items. Now, I realize he simply disliked the person giving them to him.
Reflecting on everything from the past, I made up my mind and blocked Magnus' number.
…
Magnus frowned as every message he sent bounced back with a red error notification.
He wrapped his arm around Ivy. "I really don't know what kind of fit Laura is throwing. She actually blocked me!"
Ivy lay exhausted in Magnus' arms, breathing heavily. "Magnus, maybe you should go soothe her."
Magnus clicked his tongue in annoyance. "It seems I've been way too good to her lately! It's made her forget her place."
Ivy's voice was soft, acting coy. "But what are you going to do without blood? If you don't have her consent, you can't just take her blood directly, or the school will punish you."
Hearing that, Magnus nonchalantly twirled a lock of Ivy's hair around his finger.
"It doesn't matter. I've already fed on her blood this week. Laura will come crawling back to me soon enough, just like every time before."
Magnus was full of confidence. In the past, whenever he gave me the cold shoulder, I would grovel for his forgiveness, and he assumed this time would be no different.
…
Since I didn't go looking for Magnus, he naturally wouldn't come looking for me either.
I never had friends at Monster Academy. In fact, you could say I was the whole school's public enemy.
Before, when Magnus was around, my classmates had always tolerated me out of deference to him. Now that I was wandering campus alone, it didn't take long for the vultures to circle.
Emily the werewolf was the person at Monster Academy who hated me the most. Seeing me by myself, she stepped up to block my path.
"What's wrong? You're not trailing behind Magnus these past few days? Could it be that Magnus hates a pathetic loser like you now, too?"
I kept my head down and stayed silent, not wanting to get into an argument with her. Now that I was on my own, starting a conflict wasn't a smart move.
Emily, however, had no intention of letting me off the hook.
"Makes sense, though. Someone as repulsive as you is destined to end up alone and miserable!"
Her sarcastic words stabbed straight into my heart like a blade.
"Laura, I seriously don't get how someone as obnoxious as you can still have the nerve to stay at this school. If I were you, I would have left Monster Academy ages ago instead of clinging to Magnus like a leech!"
I used to think they simply couldn't stand the fact that a human like me was attending Monster Academy, which was why I had been enduring it all in silence.
So why were they so friendly toward Ivy?
Why was Magnus like this, and why were my classmates like this too?
When I was the only human at the academy, I could still keep deceiving myself, blaming my isolation on my race. But now I desperately needed an answer.
"Why don't you guys like me? Is it just because I'm human? But Ivy is human too, so why are you all so nice to her?"
Hearing my words, Emily looked at me in utter disbelief. "You think we hate you because you're human? Oh my God, we're not racists!"
Wait, what?
"We hate you because you look down on us!"
Her sudden words left my head spinning. "What are you talking about? I've never looked down on any of you! You're the ones who have always hated me!"
Seeing how I was supposedly twisting the truth, Emily immediately whipped out her phone to show her "evidence".
"Stop denying it! We all know about the bad things you said behind our backs!"
Chapter 4
Looking over the messages on Emily's phone, every single line of so-called "evidence" sent a bone-chilling shiver down my spine.
[Werewolves are the grossest. That tail looks hideous, and that nose goes around sniffing everywhere every day like a dog begging for scraps.]
[And mermaids are such a trash species, leaving their soaking wet tails and splashing water all over the place. Truly zero class!]
[Elves' tears are supposed to have beautifying effects. I'm going to throw something in his eyes to make the baby cry!]
...
I stared in complete disbelief at the "evidence" in Emily's hands.
"I never said any of this! And I've never done any of the things written here!"
Even after hearing me out, Emily still had an expression of total distrust.
"Stop acting! Your boyfriend, Magnus, was the one who told us all of this. He even apologized to us on your behalf. If it wasn't for him, do you really think you could have stayed at this school completely unscathed?"
"He apologized to you guys?"
My heart plummeted. I suddenly remembered that when I first arrived, my classmates' attitudes toward me were actually not bad at all.
On my very first day at school, Emily shared her cookies with me and even introduced me to Ben, a little elf. Brianna, a mermaid, also voluntarily helped me carry my books.
It was just that those memories were from so long ago. Under Magnus' constant brainwashing, I only remembered my classmates' cold isolation and relentless ridicule.
"Without me, do you really think you could still stay at this school?"
Every time I had a disagreement with Magnus, he would throw that exact line in my face. And because of that, I let him manipulate me time and time again, bowing my head to him every single time.
So that was how it was.
"Emily, I have never said any of these words, nor have I ever done any of these things. Besides Magnus, has anyone else ever heard me say these things or seen me do them?"
The moment I said this, the classmates around us fell into a heavy silence.
When they actually thought back, it really was entirely Magnus' word against mine.
"But Magnus is your boyfriend. Why would he frame you?" Emily still couldn't bring herself to fully believe it. She couldn't understand why Magnus would treat his own girlfriend like this.
I couldn't understand why either. Even if he didn't love me, there was no need to go out of his way to ruin my reputation. What could he possibly gain from this?
I let out a bitter smile, and just as I was about to explain further, Magnus' voice echoed from behind me.
"What are you guys all gathered here for? Did Laura do something again? I apologize to you all on her behalf. Please, don't waste your breath on her."
It was happening again. Without reason, he immediately convicted me of guilt, pretended to apologize on my behalf, and then reaped my overwhelming gratitude in return.
"Magnus, you came at just the right time!" Emily called Magnus out. "Laura refuses to admit she ever did any of those things!"
Magnus obviously froze for a second. "What things?"
Emily grew anxious, her tone turning hurried. "The things you messaged us about!"
Perhaps Magnus had smeared my name too much over the years, because he actually had to pause for a moment before realizing what we were arguing about. He looked at me with a flash of nervousness, his voice even faltering with a stutter.
"I... I don't know what you guys are talking about. I never sent any of you anything!"
Hearing his denial, Emily exploded in rage. "If you didn't send it, did Laura send it to us herself?!"
Watching Magnus' reaction, I suddenly understood—Magnus had done this entirely on purpose.
To push everyone away from me, to force me to rely solely on him, he didn't hesitate to smear my reputation and spread rumors using his status as my boyfriend.
I stared at Magnus, feeling for the very first time that the boyfriend I had spent every day with was a complete stranger.
"Magnus, why did you do this? Why did you go around spreading false rumors about me?"
Chapter 5
My questions caught Magnus completely off guard.
He quickly stepped forward, trying to calm me down, but I dodged his reach.
"No, Laura, I don't know anything about those messages! Someone is framing me!"
"You say you didn't send them, so I only have one question for you. Did I actually say or do any of the stuff written on there?"
Magnus stood frozen, his eyes darting around nervously. He couldn't bring himself to admit in front of me that he was the one spreading those rumors.
At the same time, he couldn't let our classmates find out the rumors were fake either. If everyone stopped isolating me, would I still cling to him like before?
"I don't know!"
He didn't deny that the rumors were fake, nor did he admit to spreading them himself. He simply gave a vague answer, desperately trying to pull himself out of the splash zone.
I almost laughed at the sheer absurdity.
Emily wasn't buying it either. She turned on Magnus and demanded, "First you say you didn't send them, and now you say you don't know? Laura is with you every single day. How could you, as her boyfriend, not know a thing?"
The atmosphere instantly turned tense.
Emily was just about to keep pressing when Ivy cut her off.
"Emily! Even though Magnus and Laura are dating, that doesn't mean Magnus knows everything Laura does. But that doesn't mean Laura never said those things."
Ivy called out, her voice sweet and cloying. Every word she spoke was aimed at making excuses for Magnus while throwing me under the bus.
I walked up to Ivy and looked her dead in the eye. "Oh? And what exactly did I do?"
"Oh, you know... stuff like calling werewolves gross and all that. Everyone has their own personal taste, after all. I'm sure you didn't mean to say it on purpose, Laura."
On the surface, it sounded like she was trying to clear my name. In reality, every word she spoke was locking in my guilt.
Emily looked at Ivy, letting out a dry smile. "Did I even mention that specific line just now? For a transfer student, you sure know a lot. You seem to know plenty about things that even Magnus claims not to know."
The smile on Ivy's face froze for a split second.
"No! That's not it!" She hastily denied. "I just heard it from someone else!"
"Someone else? Who? From what I remember, you've been sticking close to Magnus ever since you transferred here. But isn't Magnus clueless about it?" Emily pressed, closing in step by step.
Frightened, Ivy shrank back and hid right behind Magnus.
"Enough!"
He threw his arms out wide, shielding Ivy behind him. After all, how could Magnus ever bear to see Ivy mistreated?
"What does any of this have to do with Ivy? If you want answers, go ask Laura!"
To protect Ivy, Magnus threw me under the bus once again.
"Aren't you Laura's boyfriend? You claimed you didn't know anything when Laura was being misunderstood, so why are you defending another girl so fiercely?"
Magnus squared his shoulders, firing back, "She's a new student and doesn't know how things work here. So don't you guys pick on her!"
I snorted. "She doesn't know anything, yet she knows every single detail about the rumors surrounding me? Could it be that she's the one who framed me with them?"
Having her true motives exposed, Ivy's face turned pale as she shook her head frantically. "I didn't..."
"Enough! Are you satisfied now, Laura? Are you happy now that you've seen Ivy bullied?"
I looked at Magnus as he pointed at me and yelled like a madman. The last trace of affection I held for him vanished completely.
"Magnus, I'm not targeting her. You two are targeting me."
Raising my voice, I announced our breakup publicly so everyone present could hear.
"And besides, we've broken up. I hope you won't bother me ever again, and don't go around spreading rumors about me using the excuse of being my boyfriend!
"You and I have absolutely nothing to do with each other anymore. Do you understand, Magnus?"
