Synopsis
My wolf—I call her Stella—is one of a kind.
She’s been with me since I was four, but she made me promise never to tell a soul.
What’s even crazier is that even the fiercest Alpha wolves fear her. No one can ever lie to her.
When I was eight, Peterson, the director of the Silver Creek Pack orphanage, stood in front of us shivering kids.
"Pack funds are tight!" he announced. "Starting this month, we only get meat once every three months."
Stella growled in my mind: *He’s lying. He just embezzled the funds approved by the Alpha last week.*
I pointed right at his face and sneered.
"Bullshit! You embezzled the pack money to buy your mate a diamond necklace! Who do you think you're fooling?"
Peterson was banished by the Alpha soon after, turning into a rogue.
Years later, my biological parents finally tracked me down and brought me home.
Chloe, the girl they adopted in my absence, ran up with tears welling in her eyes.
"Rose! You’re finally home! This is amazing!"
Stella snorted: *She wishes we died in a ditch.*
I arched an eyebrow and looked her up and down.
"Are you sure you're happy to see me?"
Chloe’s face flushed red, then drained of color, turning an ugly shade of gray.
"Rose... how could you say that?"
She put on her best puppy-dog eyes.
"I truly welcome you back."
Mom immediately stepped forward, wrapping an arm around Chloe’s trembling shoulders and glaring at me.
"Rose, watch your tone! Chloe is only being sweet. Stop being so paranoid!"
Dad’s expression darkened as he scolded me.
"The hospital mix-up twenty years ago wasn’t Chloe’s fault."
"She’s been our devoted, gentle daughter all these years. She represents the best of the Anderson Pack."
"You’re our blood, but she’s the one we raised."
"We love both of you equally. We’re not throwing her out just because you returned."
"Learn some grace. Be the bigger person."
I scoffed, looking at these two strangers who claimed to be my parents.
"My return ruins Chloe's perfect life. It’s human nature to hate it, and nobody beats human nature."
"Excessive kindness always hides an agenda."
"Drop the fake act. It honestly makes me sick."
Mom and Dad looked appalled, their disgust barely concealed beneath their polite masks.
To them, their real daughter was nothing more than an uneducated, feral brat raised in the gutter.
Beta Thomas Gray walked over, bowing politely.
"Welcome back, Rose. Your room is ready. Brand-new sheets, fresh decor—I made sure everything is perfect for your comfort."
I didn't move.
Stella whispered: *He’s lying. Chloe told him to install hidden cameras.*
I marched straight into the bedroom. A minute later, I walked out holding three hidden bugs and a pinhole camera in my palm.
"This is your idea of 'comfortable'? Who told you to spy on me?"
Beta Thomas fell to his knees with a thud, his face pale as he looked desperately at Chloe.
"Chloe, please tell her! You were the one who asked me to—"
"Liar!"
Chloe shrieked, cutting him off instantly.
"Mom! Dad! He’s framing me!"
"Rose just got home, why would I ever do something so vile?"
Mom instantly cradled Chloe to her chest, whispering soothing words, while Dad frowned at me.
"Rose, maybe Thomas was just concerned for your safety? He wanted to protect you."
"Thomas has served the Anderson family for decades. He’s worked hard for this pack."
"It’s a minor misunderstanding. Don't make a scene."
"A minor misunderstanding?"
I barked out a laugh.
"Violating my privacy is a minor issue?"
"Either you fire him, or banish him from pack territory. Pick one."
Afraid of pack gossip, Mom and Dad had no choice but to make Beta Thomas pack his bags and leave.
After that, the household staff walked on eggshells around me. Nobody dared play games to my face.
Still, the way my parents looked at me grew colder by the day.
"You're both cursing me in your heads, thinking I'm a nightmare daughter, right?"
I smiled, completely unbothered.
"That’s who I am. Deal with it."That evening, Alpha Victor Blake paid a visit. He was my betrothed mate by pack contract.
The Silver Creek Pack and the Blake Pack had been allies for generations.
However, while our pack thrived, the Blake Pack was hanging on by a thread.
At least my parents honored their word and hadn't broken the engagement.
Victor looked handsome, charming, and wore an immaculate smile.
"Rose, welcome home. When should we finalize our mate bond?"
"I promise I’ll make you the happiest woman in the world."
Stella scoffed: *He only wants your family fortune.*
I smirked.
"Alpha Victor, care to repeat what you just said?"
His smile faltered for a fraction of a second before recovering. "I said I'll make you happy!"
I didn't feel like wasting time.
"There’s no point forcing two strangers together. Love can’t be forced."
I glanced sideways at Chloe, who was listening with bated breath.
"You and Chloe clearly know each other much better. I’m not in the habit of stealing someone else's man. Take the contract, Chloe. Marry him."
Chloe’s eyes lit up with pure joy as she looked at Victor with desperate longing.
Victor’s face tightened, but he quickly turned back to me with exaggerated devotion, his voice firm.
"Rose, you’ve got it all wrong! Everything I said came from the bottom of my heart!"
"Chloe is like a sister to me. Nothing more!"
"I fell for you the second I laid eyes on you. We have a mate contract—it’s destiny!"
He stepped forward, reaching out to grab my hand.
"To be honest, long before you came back, I kept dreaming about a girl."
"She had your exact face. This is fate—"
I pulled my hand back, grabbed a cup of hot tea from the table, and splashed it directly into his face.
"Shut up. Your cheesy pickup lines make me want to puke."
"Save that garbage for naive little girls. I don't buy it."
Tea dripped down Victor’s bewildered face, leaving him speechless and humiliated.
Chloe glared at me, her eyes burning with sheer venom.
Yet even after all that disrespect, Victor refused to break the betrothal.
A man that desperate had to be hiding something massive.
Lucky for me, I always have a backup plan.
Why did I only get Beta Thomas fired instead of running him out of the territory completely?
Not out of mercy. I needed him.
Even kicked out of the main house, he still had loyal buddies among the staff.
I made Thomas order one of his guys to place hidden cameras and audio bugs inside Chloe’s bedroom.
Give them a taste of their own medicine.
Sure enough, around midnight, Victor slipped quietly into Chloe’s room.
Within minutes, the two were tangled together in bed, tearing at each other’s clothes.
Right after the messy hookup came the pillow talk.
"Vic... do you really not love me anymore? Why do you insist on marrying that freak?"
Victor let out a sinister chuckle.
"Of course I love you, baby."
"But Rose is the rightful heir of the Anderson Pack. I have to marry her first to get my hands on the Silver Creek Pack's resources."
"Once I have full control, I'll dump her instantly. Everything the Andersons own—and you—will belong to me."
"You won't feel bad for them, right? Once Rose is gone, I'm taking out your adoptive parents too."
"Cut the weeds at the roots. Leave no loose ends."
Chloe cuddled deeper into his chest, her voice dripping with greed.
"Why would I care? I hate those two old fools."
"All of this should have been mine! Who gave Rose the right to take it back?"
"They should never have brought her home. I hate every single Anderson in this house."
Listening to the audio feed, I let out a cold smirk.
You two want to play dirty?
Let's see who plays better.Over the weekend, Mom and Dad took Chloe and me to the annual Moonlight Ball to formally introduce me as their trueborn daughter.
It was a major gathering where Alphas and high-ranking wolves from neighboring packs mingled.
The moment we entered the grand ballroom, Chloe was in her element.
Clinging to Mom’s arm, she flashed sweet smiles, charming every pack elder and high-society lady into singing praises of her poise and manners.
I stood alone by the bar, watching the shallow circus with disgust.
A bloated, balding Alpha was bragging to a circle of listeners about how much pack money he invested into the youth warrior camps and how deeply he cared for the pack's future.
I walked over with my champagne flute.
Stella murmured: *He's embezzling pack supplies to pay off his personal gambling debts.*
I looked right at him. "Did you mean you embezzled pack resources for yourself?"
The man’s boastful smile froze, and cold sweat broke out across his forehead.
A little further, an overly decked-out female wolf was giggling, showing off the diamond bracelets her Alpha husband bought her, bragging about their eternal bond.
As I walked past, Stella scoffed: *She stole him from another female. The real mate was exiled and lives in isolation.*
I paused. "Is your Alpha husband really your fated mate, or did you just steal him?"
Her face went ghostly pale, nearly dropping her crystal glass.
Looking around at all these polished, smiling faces filled with venom and greed, my patience ran out.
I stepped up to the stage, grabbed the host's microphone, and let my voice boom across the entire ballroom.
"Everyone, shut up and listen."
"Take a good look around you. Greedy Alphas bleeding their packs dry, serial cheaters stabbing their mates in the back, shameless grifters stealing pack funds, and social-climbing homewreckers posing as ladies..."
With every word I spoke, another face in the crowd turned white.
"You show up in tailored suits and million-dollar jewelry, pretending this Moonlight Ball is about unity and pack honor."
"Ask yourselves: do any of you actually care about pack bonds?"
"You're using this fancy party to build corrupt alliances, backstab your neighbors, and scheme against each other. Doesn't it sicken you?"
Dead silence fell over the hall. It felt like the air itself had frozen.
Dad was the first to rush up, his face livid.
"Rose Anderson! Shut your mouth right now! Are you trying to offend every pack in the territory and destroy Silver Creek?"
Chloe hurried over as well, pretending to be the peacemaker.
"Rose, please stop! These are just the unspoken social rules between packs. You’re embarrassing Mom and Dad..."
I shoved her arm off, speaking louder into the mic.
"Rules? Bullshit rules!"
"Hypocritical customs don't hold a candle to basic honesty."
"You call yourselves high-ranking werewolves?"
"You're just a bunch of rotted trash in expensive clothes!"
Mom and Dad turned bright red with rage and stormed off.
I set the microphone down. As I turned, my eyes caught a lone man standing quietly in the farthest corner of the ballroom.
He was dressed in a sleek black suit, tall, sharp, and completely detached from the superficial crowd around him.He was looking straight at me.
There was no disgust or shock in his dark eyes—only sheer admiration and amusement.
He raised his glass toward me in a subtle toast, mouthing three words:
*Well done, badass.*
After the ball, things between my parents and me reached an all-time low.
I didn't waste time sulking. Instead, I demanded to join the pack’s border patrols and defense meetings.
Dad practically exploded.
"You? On defense patrol? Haven’t you caused enough trouble?"
"With your reckless mouth, you'll start a war with another pack! I won't let you gamble with Silver Creek’s survival!"
I didn't back down an inch.
"I carry Alpha blood. Pack security is my birthright."
"If you refuse, call an Elders' Council right now and let them vote on it."
Dad’s face turned purple, but knowing I was crazy enough to actually demand a council vote, he gritted his teeth and caved.
"Fine! You can observe. But you will not open your mouth or touch a single defense order!"
I sat in on the pack defense council meeting.
The Beta in charge of the northern border reported suspicious footprints near the hunting grounds, suspecting rogue activity.
Within five minutes of listening to him speak, Stella whispered: *He took a bribe. He planted those traps himself for an outside pack.*
I stood up, walked to the head of the conference table, and slapped my palm down.
"Those northern traps weren't set by outsiders. It's an inside job."
"Search Beta Grey’s house. See what you find."
Dad looked skeptical, but with the elders staring, he sent guards to raid the house immediately.
They returned with crates of silver-laced traps and coded letters between Beta Grey and our rival, the Gray Claw Pack.
If I hadn’t spoken up, our patrol team would have walked into an ambush within forty-eight hours, resulting in a massacre.
Looking at the evidence, Dad stared at me with an entirely new expression in his eyes.
A few days later, word of the Moonlight Ball spread like wildfire across the territories.
The Alphas and socialites I publicly roasted lost their credibility, their reputations in tatters.
Ironically, because of my "ruthless bluntness," neighboring packs began viewing the Silver Creek Pack as honest, fearless, and untainted by petty politics.
Our pack’s standing skyrocketed. Neutral packs even reached out asking for formal alliances.
Seeing the influx of respectful emissaries, Mom and Dad finally showed genuine smiles.
Their gaze toward me softened into pride.
They officially granted me a seat at the inner council.
Meanwhile, Chloe locked herself in her bedroom, smashing every porcelain doll in her collection.
Taking advantage of my parents' good mood, I formally brought it up again.
"Victor Blake is crooked and rotten to the core. I will never complete the mate bond with him."
When the news reached Victor, he panicked.
He and Chloe scrambled to hatch an ugly plot: they’d secretly place lethal trap fields in our northern hunting territory to butcher a patrol squad, while planting fake evidence to frame me for colluding with rogues. They wanted to ruin me permanently.
As the conspirators came to report routine duties, Stella caught them red-handed: *Victor ordered this guard to plant Rose’s scent markers near the silver traps.*
I kept my cool, secretly gathering hard evidence of every move they made.
A few days later came Chloe’s and my shared birthday.
The Anderson family threw a massive banquet.
I had originally planned to publicly sever the mate contract when cutting the cake.
Unexpectedly, Victor beat me to the punch.
Right at the peak of the celebration, under the blinding spotlights, Victor walked up, dropped to one knee, and pulled out a massive diamond ring.
"Rose! I know I'm not perfect, but I'll spend the rest of my life proving my love to you!"
"Accept our bond! Let me make you the happiest woman alive!"
The entire hall erupted into cheers, claps, and whistles.
Mom and Dad smiled approvingly.
I looked at Victor, then caught Chloe standing nearby, forcing a smile while her eyes burned with jealous rage.
Stella growled coldly: *The second he secures the pack, he plans to poison you and Chloe together.*
I let out a cold laugh.
"Alpha Victor, did you really think I don't know what you're thinking?"
"Even a stray dog has more dignity than you."
"A piece of trash like you wants to be my mate? Keep dreaming."
"Get lost."
*Boom.*
The entire ballroom felt as if an artillery shell had detonated.
