Synopsis
On our sixth wedding anniversary, I took my family on a beach vacation.
Halfway through the trip, all three of our children suffered severe allergic reactions.
After rushing them to the hospital, the tests revealed it was triggered by almond oil in their sunscreen.
Neither my wife, Chloe, nor I had an almond allergy. Why were all three of our kids allergic?
A friend of mine had joked with me once.
"How come none of your kids look like you? They don't look like you at all."
I brushed it off back then, assuming they just took after their mother.
Staring at the three boys who shared not a single feature with me, I went behind Chloe's back and ordered a paternity test.
When the results came in, my world shattered.
Not a single one of them was mine.
Clutching the report, I confronted my wife:
"Whose children are they?!"
Chloe sighed and grabbed my arm.
"Does it really matter who fathered them? You're their dad. Why are you making such a huge fuss over this?"
"Trust me, the boys and I truly love you."
I shoved her hand away.
"I want a divorce."
Chloe dropped to her knees, begging me.
"We can't divorce! I'm pregnant again. I swear, this time the baby is definitely yours!"
As an OB-GYN, I had seen my fair share of hospital drama.
Fathers running off after a baby was born with birth defects, cheating spouses exposed in delivery rooms...
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that none of my three children would share my blood.
When I walked through the front door with the test results, Chloe's stepbrother, Mason, was lounging on the sofa with his arm around her, watching TV.
My three boys were playing quietly with Legos nearby.
To anyone looking, they were a picture-perfect family.
Refusing to lose my temper in front of the kids and a guest, I dragged Chloe into our bedroom.
I slammed the report onto the bed.
"Whose kids are they? You better give me an explanation right now!"
I braced myself for her excuses or some clumsy lie.
Deep down, I was still praying for a clerical error at the lab.
Instead, Chloe admitted it without batting an eye.
"Fine, they aren't yours. But how could you go behind my back and run a paternity test?"
"Even if they don't share your DNA, you're still their father."
"We've been married for six years. Can't you tell how much we love you?"
I was completely dumbfounded. She betrayed me, had another man's babies, and somehow turned herself into the victim?
Hearing our raised voices, Mason pushed the bedroom door open and walked in.
"Logan, what's going on? Keep it down. You're going to scare the kids."
I glared at him.
"This is between my wife and me. It has nothing to do with you. Get out."
Chloe immediately jumped to his defense.
"Mason is family. We don't have secrets between us."
Fury boiled over inside me.
"I'm asking one last time. Who is the biological father?"
Chloe glanced at Mason, a flicker of panic in her eyes, before blurting out:
"I dated three guys before we got married! I don't even know which one did it!"
"And you have no right to judge me. I never once complained about your performance in bed!"
"You probably can't even get someone pregnant anyway. Is it that hard to raise these three boys as your own?"
Mason chimed in, playing the voice of reason:
"Logan, she's right. The kids already see you as their father. You should count your blessings."
"Blood isn't everything. Besides, hasn't Chloe taken amazing care of this home for the past five years?"
Chloe crossed her arms, looking utterly smug.
A bitter laugh escaped my throat. She was the one who cheated, yet they were acting like I was starting trouble over nothing.
Right then, my oldest son ran into the room.
He wrapped his arms around my leg. "Daddy, stop bullying Mommy!"
I looked down at the boy, then glanced back up at Mason.
Wait.
Why did my son resemble Mason so much?
Especially that distinct, wide nose!
Mason was supposed to be Chloe's stepbrother.
Could they really be that disgusting?Looking back over the years, a terrifying realization washed over me: Mason and Chloe were far too intimate.
They had different last names and shared zero biological ties.
Ever since Chloe gave birth, Mason had volunteered to babysit every single weekend.
"Nannies cost a fortune and can't be trusted. You hear about nanny abuse on the news all the time," he had told me.
"I'll take care of them. You can rest easy."
Back then, I had been touched by his generosity and showered him with designer gifts.
Looking at it now, the warning signs were everywhere!
Swallowing my rage, I kept my mouth shut and secretly gathered a few strands of Mason's hair.
The next morning, I sent Mason's hair and my oldest son's hair for a DNA test. The results confirmed my worst nightmare: my oldest son was Mason's biological child.
My hands shook violently with rage.
I wanted to hunt those two down and tear them apart, but my clinical instincts kicked in. I hired a private investigator to dig into Mason and Chloe's past.
What I found was even more sickening.
Mason wasn't her stepbrother at all. He was her first love.
Chloe hadn't just stepped out on our marriage; she had moved her ex into our home and carried on an affair right beneath my nose.
Because of my brutal hospital shifts, I had been oblivious to it all.
A darker thought took root in my mind.
I took DNA samples from the second and third boys and ran them against mine.
Just like the oldest, neither shared a single drop of my blood. All three were Mason's bastards!
Six years. Three children. Not a single one mine. I had been breaking my back for six years raising her lover's kids. I was the biggest fool on the planet!
The sheer shock hit my chest like a sledgehammer, and the room went black.
My physical body collapsed into a coma, but my spirit drifted out, hovering right beside Chloe.
"The hospital just called. Logan collapsed and slipped into an unexpected coma. They said he might not wake up for days."
Hearing that I was fighting for my life, Chloe didn't show an ounce of worry or make any move to visit. Instead, she flashed a flirtatious smile at Mason. "Stay here with me for the next few days. You can spend quality time with me and our boys."
Mason wrapped his arms around her waist from behind.
"The kids are watching," Chloe giggled, playfully wriggling free and calling the three boys over.
"Hi, Mason!"
"What did Mommy tell you? You only call him Mason when Fake Daddy is home. What do you call him when Fake Daddy isn't here?"
"Daddy!"
"Good boys!"
Watching the children I raised for six years call Mason "Daddy" made my blood boil to the verge of explosion.
I poured my heart, soul, and money into this family, only to end up as "Fake Daddy." Disgust churned violently inside me.
Chloe snuggled into Mason's chest, whining playfully, "Mason, I've been so nauseous lately, and my period is days late. What if I'm pregnant again?"
Mason beamed with joy. "That's fantastic! Logan promised you a $50,000 cash bonus for every kid you deliver. Aim for boy-girl twins this time!"
Chloe tapped his chest with a soft fist. "Oh, stop it. I'm not a baby machine."
"Logan couldn't get the job done, but I sure can. Let me help you."
Mason scooped my wife into his arms and carried her straight into my master bedroom. The very next morning, Chloe flew out to Hawaii with Mason and the three boys for a luxury vacation.
While they were living it up, my soul snapped back into my physical shell. Thanks to the doctors' emergency intervention, I opened my eyes.
The whole ordeal felt like a horrific nightmare until I saw Chloe's TikTok location tagged in Maui.
The two parasites were charging everything to my black credit card. Alert after alert lit up my phone with five-figure hotel bills and shopping sprees. They truly saw me as an infinite cash machine.
I didn't lift a finger to interrupt their little paradise.
My heart was completely dead to Chloe. My only goal now was to cut these leeches out of my life for good.
"Mason, that trip was pure magic! And I used a pregnancy test. It's positive!"
"Let's pray for twins so you can cash in that $100,000 bonus."
Laughter and chatter drifted in from the foyer.
Back from their getaway, Chloe and Mason pushed the front door open, walking in arm-in-arm.
"L-Logan?" Chloe froze when she saw me sitting quietly on the living room sofa. She genuinely believed I was still comatose in a hospital bed.
"Don't get the wrong idea, Logan. Chloe was exhausted, so I was just helping her balance," Mason said smoothly, shifting his grip from an embrace to a supportive hold.
Watching them put on their practiced show made me sick to my stomach. I blamed myself for being so trusting, blind to their betrayal for six whole years!
The three boys chased each other loudly into the room. Knowing they carried another man's blood, every ounce of warmth I once felt evaporated. Their giggles just sounded like grating noise.
"Logan, I have wonderful news! I'm pregnant again!"
Chloe perched on the cushion next to me as if nothing had happened, taking my hand and guiding it to her belly.
"I gave you three handsome boys, but I really hope this one is a girl..."
"You promised me $50,000 for each baby. How about transferring the funds now?"
"Mason found a house he loves, and he needs cash for the down payment. He's sacrificed so much helping our family all these years."
I let out a cold sneer. "He certainly helped. He helped father three sons with you. Must've been exhausting work."
"Logan! What are you talking about?! He's my stepbrother..."
I whipped out all three DNA reports and threw them straight into her face. "You two put on a hell of an act for six years. Sleeping together under my roof. Truly pathetic."
Chloe picked up the papers and skimmed them, looking mildly startled.
"Wait, all three belong to Mason? I honestly thought at least one of them was yours."
"Oh well, it's better this way anyway. Mason is tall and handsome. The boys will look much better taking after him than you."
Mason joined in with a magnanimous tone.
"Logan, don't take it so hard. We only called each other stepbrother and stepsister to protect your fragile ego."
"I really had no idea all three were mine either. Don't worry, I won't take them away from you. They can keep your last name."
"Once they finish college and get jobs, you can hand them back to me. We'll split their lives. Twenty years for you, twenty years for me."
Chloe chimed in without missing a beat.
"And don't you dare accuse me of cheating! Mason is the love of my life, and you're my rock, my safe harbor. Different things entirely! If anything, you should thank him for upgrading your family's gene pool. With your 5'7" height, our kids would have turned out looking like hobbits without his help."
The two of them actually chuckled together, treating the destruction of our marriage like an everyday joke.
Splitting their lives twenty years each?
Disgust rose in my throat!
They wanted me to drain my bank account raising another man's sons, only for them to take care of him when he got old?
Did they think I was a total idiot?
I had stored up an ocean of fury to confront them with, but seeing their shameless faces, I realized words were completely wasted on them.
Exhausted down to my bones, I pulled a signed divorce agreement out of my briefcase and dropped it in front of Chloe. "Sign it."Chloe blinked in disbelief, then exploded into a screaming fit.
She rolled up her sleeves, planted one hand on her hip, and pointed a finger in my face.
"Logan, are you out of your damn mind?! Making a scene over something this trivial?! I'm giving you one chance to take this back. I'm counting to three!"
Mason flipped through the terms of the settlement, his expression darkening with every line.
"Logan, do you have any decency left? You want a divorce, and you're leaving Chloe with nothing? She gave you six of her best years, and this is how you treat her? As an outsider, this is sickening to watch! If I posted this online, people would drag you through hell! Get on your knees and apologize to Chloe right now, and I'll help talk her down so we can put this behind us!"
I didn't waste my breath. I stared at Chloe with eyes completely devoid of warmth. "Are you going to sign it, or not?"
"Logan... are you being serious?" Seeing the dead calm in my face, Chloe's arrogance faltered.
"Does biological blood really matter that much to you? I told you, this baby in my stomach is definitely yours! What more do you want? Fine, Mason and I will use protection from now on, okay? Stop acting so petty!"
Mason saw an opening and pitched his own grand compromise.
"Logan, how about this? I'll move into the guest room. I'll help handle Chloe and the kids around the clock. That way, you'll have zero family stress. You can just focus on your hospital job and bringing home the money for us."
Unbelievable.
The sheer audacity of these two monsters took my breath away.
Knowing communication was impossible, I pulled out my phone and called Chloe's parents.
Within half an hour, her father, Andrew, and her mother, Claire, burst through the front door, head-to-toe in luxury brands. Both were unemployed freeloaders whose entire lifestyle was funded by my paychecks.
I naively assumed they possessed a shred of basic human morality.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
When they heard the full story, neither Andrew nor Claire looked the least bit surprised. They had known about Chloe and Mason's sickening affair from the very beginning.
I was the only fool in the dark. Birds of a feather really did flock together!
Andrew sat on the couch beside me, patting my shoulder consolingly.
"Logan, you need to let it go."
"Mason and Chloe share a once-in-a-lifetime love. He vowed never to marry another woman for her sake. It's only natural she had a few sons with him."
He leaned in closer, lowering his voice.
"Besides, she told you the baby she's carrying right now is yours. You're going to be a father again!"
"You should be popping champagne, not throwing tantrums and filing for divorce. There's nothing we can't talk through."
I stared at him, flabbergasted by his casual tone.
"If your wife cheated on you and made you raise another man's kids for six years, would you be preaching this garbage?"
Andrew choked, his face reddening.
Claire didn't bother playing nice. She snatched the divorce papers off the table and tore them into confetti.
"Logan, don't push your luck! You're an average-looking 5'7" doctor! Marrying a goddess like my daughter was your family's biggest stroke of luck!"
"You want a divorce? Fine!"
"You walk away with nothing! The house and the cars belong to Chloe. She spent six years with you. You will pay her $100,000 for every year she wasted, plus a $500,000 settlement for emotional distress!"
"Don't worry, we're reasonable people. You can keep all the kids!"
Andrew and Claire rambled on without pause. My stomach churned so violently I thought I was going to vomit.
I shot up from the couch.
"What are you doing?!" Chloe flinched, instinctively burying herself against Mason's shoulder.
I began to clap slowly, forcing a polite smile across my face.
"My mistake. I was being small-minded. Let's forget the divorce. We'll go back to how things were. Tomorrow, I'll take you to the clinic for a full prenatal checkup. You're pregnant, after all. Stress isn't good for the baby."
Chloe's chest puffed out with arrogant triumph.
"Glad you finally saw reason. But since you raised your voice at me earlier, you're clearing out my Amazon cart tonight, or you won't hear the end of it!"
I said nothing, merely giving a casual shrug.
