Synopsis
We had been happily child-free for twenty years—or so I thought. Then my husband brought home a boy, claiming he wanted us to adopt him.
I believed him. I poured my heart and soul into raising that child, signing over all our properties and assets to his name alongside my husband.
A decade flew by. My husband died suddenly of heart failure, his final wish pleading with me to treat the boy well.
Years later, I suffered a stroke and lay paralyzed in bed, waiting for a guardian’s signature for emergency treatment.
The boy sat by my bedside and suddenly laughed.
"You idiot. You actually raised your husband's mistress’s kid your whole life."
He revealed that he was my husband’s biological son, planted there solely to steal my fortune.
"Too bad my mom died early, or you wouldn't have lasted this long."
I glared at him, choked on my own rage, and died right there.
When I opened my eyes again, my husband was walking through the front door, leading that same boy by the hand and handing me a piece of paper.
"Honey, let's adopt a kid so someone can take care of us when we're old. Look, here's the DNA test. We share zero blood relation."
I took the paper, slowly ripped it in half, and smiled coldly.
"Let's get a divorce. You leave with nothing."
The suffocation vanished in an instant. My eyes snapped open.
Above me hung the opulent crystal chandelier of our living room.
My husband, Mark, was walking through the door, leading a ten-year-old boy.
He casually handed me a document.
"Honey, let's adopt a kid so someone can take care of us when we're old."
"Look, this is an official paternity test. We share zero blood relation."
My brain buzzed.
I had been reborn.
Memories of my past life flashed before my eyes like a relentless film reel.
After my stroke left me paralyzed, I signed away every single asset under my name to this supposed "adopted son."
The second the ink dried, he sat at my bedside with a vile, sneering grin.
He told me he was Mark’s biological son from a long-term affair. The paternity test had been completely forged.
He told me that if his mother hadn't died young, Mark would have kicked me out decades ago.
I had choked to death on sheer fury.
And now, Mark was standing before me, handing me that exact same forged report.
He wore a tailored suit, his eyes dripping with hypocrisy and calculated schemes.
Hiding behind him, the boy was eyeing me with venomous curiosity.
My hands gripped my knees so tightly my knuckles turned white.
Given my real temper, I would tear this sheet in two and throw him out on the street right now.
But that would be letting him off way too easy.
I wanted to destroy him piece by piece. I wanted him to kick this bastard out with his own two hands!
I took a deep breath and instantly painted a warm, gentle smile across my face.
I reached out and took the paternity test.
Mark visibly exhaled in relief.
"Mark, you’re so thoughtful," I cooed softly.
"We’ve been married for twenty years without kids. The house really has been lonely."
"He looks like such a bright boy. Let’s keep him."
A flicker of wild joy flashed across Mark's eyes. He hurriedly pulled the boy forward.
"Leo, quickly, call her Mom."
Leo looked up, his expression petulant and defiant.
"Hello, Auntie."
He refused to call me Mom.
Mark's expression froze, and he scrambled to cover it up.
"He's just shy around strangers."
I waved my hand with an easy laugh.
"No worries, take it slow."
"In this house, I’ll make sure he’s very well 'taken care of.'"
Leo shuddered involuntarily, shrinking back behind Mark.
Over the next few days, I played the devoted mother to perfection.
I bought Leo designer clothes and enrolled him in the most prestigious private prep school.
I even cleared out the master guest suite right beside our bedroom just for him.
Mark watched all this, grinning from ear to ear every single day.
He genuinely believed he had manipulated me into submission. He thought he had not only snuck his secret love child into the family, but turned me into their doting, unpaid nanny.
What an absolute clown.
That evening, while Mark was in the shower, I slipped quietly into Leo’s room.
He was fast asleep, drooling all over his silk pillow.
I took out a small pair of scissors and neatly snipped a lock of his hair.
Then, I headed toward the laundry basket outside the master bathroom.
From the dirty shirt Mark had taken off, I plucked a strand of short hair with the root follicle intact.
Early the next morning, I delivered both samples to a private testing lab.
I paid the technician a massive bribe.
"Make me a fake report."
"No matter what the actual science says, the final conclusion must state that these two individuals share absolutely zero biological relation."Money speaks volumes. The efficiency was remarkable.
Three days later, I held an "official" stamped DNA report in my hands.
That evening, Mark came home from work in high spirits. He was humming a tune, bouncing Leo on his shoulders in the living room.
Leo was giggling uncontrollably.
What a touching scene of fatherly devotion.
I carried a cup of hot tea over and sat on the sofa.
"Mark, Leo, come over here for a second."
Mark set Leo down and sat beside me with an easy grin.
"What is it, honey?"
My eyes welled up with tears on cue. Two droplets rolled down my cheeks as I grabbed Mark’s hand.
"Mark, I wronged you!"
Startled by my sudden breakdown, Mark froze.
"Honey, what are you talking about?"
I sniffled, looking thoroughly ashamed.
"When Leo first arrived, I had a knot in my chest."
"I kept thinking he looked a little too much like you."
"I suspected you had another woman out there, and that he was your secret love child."
Mark went stiff as a board. His smile vanished.
Cold sweat broke out across his forehead.
He stammered, "H-Honey, what crazy nonsense is that?"
"Didn't the paperwork make it crystal clear?"
I nodded frantically.
"I know! I was letting my petty jealousy get the better of me!"
As I spoke, I pulled the freshly printed lab report from my purse.
"Just to put my own paranoia to rest, I secretly took hair samples from both of you."
"I went to the top genetic testing lab in the city and ran another test."
Mark’s eyes widened in sheer horror. His hands began to shake uncontrollably.
He stared at the envelope in my hands.
He knew damn well that was his biological son.
He assumed I had uncovered the truth and was about to lay all my cards on the table. He was already bracing himself to drop to his knees and beg for mercy.
I slammed the report onto the coffee table.
"Mark, I’m so sorry! I really misjudged you!"
"You two truly have zero biological connection whatsoever!"
Dead silence filled the living room.
Mark went completely dumb.
He stared blankly at the paper.
Right there at the bottom, printed in bold: Biological paternity is conclusively excluded (0.00%).
Mark’s face visibly turned green.
In sheer disbelief, he picked up the report, scanning every single word.
He couldn't believe it.
Yet, he didn't dare say it was fake in front of me.
Because the moment he questioned this test, he would be admitting Leo was his biological child.
He would be confessing to his affair and years of betrayal.
His mind could only follow the logical conclusion.
If this report was true...
Then whose kid was Leo?!
The sweet, submissive mistress he had pampered and hidden away for ten years...
Had cheated on him?!
Not only was he a cheating scumbag, he was the ultimate cuckold!
Mark’s hands shook so violently the paper crumpled in his fists.
He took ragged, heavy breaths, his bloodshot eyes ready to tear someone apart.
Leo had no idea what was happening.
He ran over and clung to Mark’s leg.
"Dad! Buy me that new gaming console!"
Usually, that word "Dad" would melt Mark's heart into butter.
Now, it landed like a resounding slap across his face.
Mark snapped his head around, glaring murderously at Leo’s face.
Before, he thought Leo looked just like him.
Now, the more he looked, the more he felt this little brat resembled his mistress's broke ex-boyfriend!
Trembling with rage, Mark lost control and violently shoved Leo away.
Leo lost his balance, hit the floor hard, and burst into wails.
"Why did you push me?!"
"My mom told me this whole house belongs to me!"
Spoiled rotten, Leo’s true colors immediately surfaced.
I gasped, covering my mouth in shock.
"Mark, why is this child talking like that?"
"Who on earth is his mother?"The veins on Mark’s forehead bulged.
He looked ready to kill the boy right then and there.
Gritting his teeth, he forced a smile that looked uglier than weeping.
"He's just a child... He picked up bad habits at the orphanage."
I dropped my smile immediately, my tone turning dead serious.
"Mark, this won't do."
"Since he has zero blood relation to us, he's just an ordinary adoptee."
"Harboring an ungrateful, lying brat like this in our home is asking for ruin."
I locked eyes with Mark, speaking every word with chilling clarity.
"The monarchy is dead, and we’re not raising an entitled little prince in this house."
"Send him away."
Mark froze.
Send him away?
This was the boy he had doted on for ten years!
Yet... was he actually his son at all?!
A brutal war was raging in Mark's head.
He was attached, but his pride could not swallow the humiliation of raising another man’s bastard.
Leo threw himself onto the floor, kicking and screaming.
"I’m not leaving!"
"This is my house!"
"You old hag, who are you to kick me out!"
He pointed right at my nose, screeching insults.
I instantly turned to Mark with a wounded, tearful gaze.
"Mark, listen to how he talks to me."
"I only agreed to take him in for your sake, and this is how he treats me?"
Looking at Leo thrashing on the carpet, Mark’s mind was flooded with vivid images of his mistress laughing at him behind his back.
His sanity finally snapped.
He stormed over, grabbed Leo by the collar, and slapped him across the face with all his might.
Leo’s cheek swelled instantly.
The boy went completely mute from shock, forgetting how to cry.
"You little bastard, how dare you insult my wife!"
Mark roared, spit flying, his eyes rimmed with madness.
"I gave you food, I gave you shelter, and you think you can run your mouth here?!"
When the word "bastard" tore from Mark’s throat, his voice sounded like it was dripping blood.
He was cursing Leo, and he was cursing the woman who had made a fool out of him.
Fighting back the smirk tugging at my lips, I fueled the fire.
"Honey, don't be so angry. It’s not worth ruining your health over an outsider."
"I heard there’s a strict, locked-down military reform school on the outskirts. They specialize in troubled kids like this."
"Tuition is a hundred thousand a year. Strict discipline, zero home visits for a full year."
"Let’s send him there. At least we’ll have fulfilled our civic duty."
Mark wanted nothing more than to erase this living proof of his humiliation.
He nodded violently like a bobblehead.
"Send him!"
"First thing tomorrow morning!"
"I'm packing his bags right now. Get out of the main house—he's sleeping in the basement tonight!"
Mark hoisted Leo up by the scruff of his neck like a dead chicken.
Leo finally snapped out of his daze and started shrieking at the top of his lungs.
"I don't want to go to the basement!"
"I want my mom!"
"You bad dad, if you hit me, I'll tell my mom to cuss you out!"
Hearing "my mom" shattered Mark’s last thread of restraint.
He kicked Leo square in the backside.
"Your mother is a lying whore!"
"And you’re a worthless little leech!"
"Get down there!"
Mark personally dragged Leo down into the cold, damp basement.
The heavy door slammed shut and locked, cutting off Leo’s muffled screams.
Panting heavily, Mark staggered back into the living room and collapsed onto the couch.
Burying his face in his hands, he looked as if he had aged ten years in ten minutes.
I walked up behind him and gently massaged his tense shoulders.
"Mark, don't tear yourself apart over a stranger with no blood tie to you."
"As long as you love me, even if we never have children, I’ll stay by your side forever."
Mark grabbed my hand tightly, tears streaming down his face.
In his twisted mind, I was the only person left in the entire world who truly loved him.
"Honey... you’re the best thing in my life."
"From now on, it's just the two of us. We're never bringing up adoption again."
I looked down at the thinning hair on the crown of his head.
A freezing, vicious smirk curved my lips.
Just the two of us?
Keep dreaming.
The real show has only just begun.
This was merely step one of my revenge.
I will make you destroy everything you cherish with your own hands, until you are left bleeding and completely bankrupt. The next morning, long before dawn broke.
The transport van from the reform school pulled into our driveway.
After freezing in the damp basement all night, Leo was shivering violently, curled up into a miserable ball.
The moment he saw Mark, he lunged forward and grabbed his pant leg.
"Dad, I'm sorry! I'll never do it again!"
"Please don't send me away! I'm scared!"
He was sobbing uncontrollably, wiping snot and tears all over Mark’s trousers.
Staring at the boy's familiar face, a flicker of hesitation crossed Mark's mind.
But the memory of that "0.00%" on the paper turned that sliver of pity into pure disgust.
He kicked Leo off with a look of revulsion.
"Don't call me Dad! I'm not your father!"
Two burly instructors in tactical uniforms stepped forward, grabbing Leo firmly by his arms.
"Don't worry, Mr. Vance. Leave him to us. In one year, we guarantee to return a disciplined, obedient boy."
The instructor's cold smile sent chills down the spine.
I had done my homework.
That facility was infamous—a literal boot-camp nightmare where kids came out stripped of their dignity and sanity.
In my past life, Leo had used Mark’s money to torture me to death.
In this life, I would let him taste what it felt like to be crushed like an insect.
Leo was dragged kicking and screaming into the black van.
As the sliding door shut, his face pressed against the tinted glass, glaring at me with raw, venomous hatred.
I stood gracefully on the porch steps, offering him a sweet, breezy little wave.
Bye-bye, you little monster.
The van sped away, swallowed by the morning fog.
Mark stood frozen, staring blankly in the direction it vanished.
I walked down the steps and gently looped my arm through his.
"Honey, it's chilly out here. Let's head inside."
Mark nodded numbly and followed me into the house.
At breakfast, he was completely out of it.
He was so distracted he nearly shoved his spoon into his nose while eating his oatmeal.
I put on a face of deep concern.
"Mark, are you overwhelmed at work?"
"Why don't you take a couple of days off and rest at home?"
His eyes darted away, dodging my gaze.
"I'm fine. A big project just landed at the firm. I need to oversee it."
I laughed internally.
A big project? He was dying to go confront his beloved mistress.
Sure enough, the second breakfast was over, Mark snatched his car keys and bolted out the door.
Standing before the floor-to-ceiling window, I watched his Range Rover speed out the gates.
I dialed my private investigator.
"Keep your eyes glued to Mark Vance. Whoever he sees, whatever he says—record everything."
"I want high-definition video and crisp audio."
